The sea, the rocks that surround the bay, the fishing pier and the tiny beach have become a permanent setting for his paintings. The Portlligat became Salvador Dalí's spiritual refuge, a secret refuge where he renounced the world, completely immersed in work. It was here that most of the most significant works were written.
The House Museum itself is a labyrinth of fishermen's houses with winding corridors, sometimes dead ends, that Dalí and Gala acquired and equipped for forty years. This seemingly absurd piece of architecture, fits harmoniously into the mountainous landscape and certainly deserves to be one of the objects of your attention.
