Fenals

The Fenals area is located southwest of Lloret de Mar and has its own beautiful beach.

The Fenals deposit was located on a large site located 50 meters from the sea, in a place called Pla de Fenals, in front of the Passapera stream and between Francesc Layret and Río de la Plata streets, in the municipality of Lloret de Mar. Fenals It extends over a plain watered by the Passapera stream, which flows into the beach of the same name through a narrow corridor following the coastal cliffs. The location of the site, combined with the orography of the place, makes this place favor the establishment of works associated with the handling of mud. Undoubtedly, the ideal place for pottery production: abundant water, raw materials and a front line exit to the sea.

Towards the mid-seventies, with the installation of pipes in Francesc Layret street by some workers from the municipal brigade of the Lloret de Mar City Council, a set of ceramic materials that could be used were discovered in the immediate surroundings of the Passapera stream. identify as from Roman times. Inside the trench that had been prepared for this activity, a significant amount of archaeological remains began to be collected, basically represented by the presence of tegulae, amphora fragments, some with cooking defects, and even some coins, which, according to the local fans, it could be a Domitian coin, dated AD 83.

At the same time and in a place not far from this street, a group of similar materials had also been found in some works that were made in the street of San Jorge, near the Puig Señorial. However, in the seventies, in that same area you could see a fully operational factory that made bricks and other local productions of different types of ceramics.

On the occasion of learning about this background, many local scholars were not surprised that in some points of this sector of the Fenals area, it was possible to locate an ancient pottery production center.

Today the Fenals gives us an alley of the embankment of 1.2 kilometers long, invites you for a walk along the sea, in the tourist season (from May to October) the beach is equipped with rental sun beds, umbrellas and also various water activities. Various cafes and restaurants along the promenade, work from early morning to late night (8:00 - 02:00) and offer you to try various dishes of Mediterranean cuisine, in the restaurant “Xaloc” and “Planiol”, in the daytime you can order a good business lunch, restaurant “Internacional”, it offers a different selection of fresh seafood on the menu, and in the cozy “Punta Garbi” beach bar,  you can taste delicious cocktails and once a week, listen to a live violin with amazing acoustics, right on the seashore.

There is another beach on Fenals, hidden from the eyes of passers-by, it is a colorful bay called “playa Sa Boadella”, to get to it, you need to go down a small slope passing through a pine forest.

Sa Boadella beach is divided into two parts, one is destined to the nudists rest, this is a remote area of the beach, which is fenced off by a small rock. And the rest of the beach is very appreciated by the family’s and the locals. On the beach “Sa Boadella” there is also a restaurant-cafe, with everything you need to spend a great day on the beach!

In the Fenals, everything is thought out and arranged  for a comfortable stay and for year-round living, without the need for traveling by car. Fanals has several supermarkets, three of them are Consum, Dia and Caprabo. Opening hours in the summer every day from 9:00 to 22:00, and in winter they are closed on Sunday. Vegetable shops, pharmacies, a medical center, a school, cafes, hairdressers and other services, all this is at Fanals and within walking distance. To the center of Lloret de mar, is 15 minutes walking.

Also, the Fenals district, unlike the city centre, is very quiet and ideal for families with children, there are many a playgrounds, the Santa Clotilde Botanical Garden from where magnificent landscapes open up, a great place for a photo shoot, Gnomo Park is located in 5 minutes by car or bus, it is a small children's amusement park with cable mazes in the trees.

As for the transport at Fenals, there are a large number of bus stops on the L2 line, this bus takes you all over Lloret and runs every 20 minutes. Also a bus stop travels to Blanes, Barcelona, or to the airport. In winter at Fenals, the car can be easily and safely parked on the street, in free parking areas. But in the summer during the height season, if you decide to come by car or rent a car, it is better to choose a housing option with your own parking space.
